CURT GILLESPIE
Hometown: Pueblo, Colorado (1958-1980); Kalamazoo (1980-present)
Graduate of CNM, May 2003 (Associate Degree in Graphic Design Communication with Architectural Illustration emphasis)
A self-taught artist and native of Colorado, Curt Gillespie’s interest in painting started at an early age. Family excursions to the mountains and detailed studies of local artists’ work encouraged him to develop his representational style for depicting the landscape. He continued developing his individual style while obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University and during his nineteen-year professional career in the pharmaceutical industry. He then returned to school at Center for New Media as a full time student of graphic arts, concentrating on architectural illustration. After graduation, Curt still resides in Kalamazoo and has opened an architectural rendering business. He also finds time to create paintings in his studio.
Curt's favorite classes were Color Pencil Media (ART 204) and Electronic Artistry (GRD 211). He highly recommends taking a class from Karen Matson and says "her energy is infectious!" On the value of CNM, Curt states that it lies in "the ROI (Return on Investment) because CNM is a low cost/high quality program. The quality is largely seen in the faculty."
Curt's advice to entering CNM students: "Don’t cop out! Make the time, do the work, and you’ll be rewarded accordingly."
