POSITIONING CNM

Since the “dot-bomb” (i.e. the implosion of the “dot-com” economy), the national media has turned its attention away from the Internet economy. In the process, the nature of business has become more, not less, tech dependent. Without the harsh light of cameras showing tech excesses, the business and artistic worlds have forged an existence where technology and media are symbiotic.

The Center for New Media at Kalamazoo Valley Community College is quickly gaining attention and reputation for understanding this reality. More important, the Center is preparing its students to lead the next tech revolution.

The Center for New Media offers high quality, cutting-edge, real-world instruction for students and professionals ensuring each have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to create effective, interesting, dynamic, and interactive new media applications.

Because unfolding technology is changing the way Americans learn, play, shop and work, creating a billion-dollar industry in the process, KVCC formed its Center for New Media in 2000. In doing that, KVCC purposely developed a curriculum that develops new ideas, refuses to recognize artificial lines separating disciplines and fields, meets the burgeoning needs of the multimedia, digital-art and interactivity industries, and trains students to be creative, flexible, and disciplined.

The term “new media” applies to the divergent ways of organizing, creating and delivering information because of computer technologies. The Center for New Media offers credit and non-credit classes in animation, digital photography, e-commerce, graphic design, illustration, multimedia, web design, web programming, and writing. It is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of teaching professionals, technical experts, and industry leaders working together to change the way business is done. Technically.
